JYU and the Educational Sciences

MDP Educational Sciences

Located in the quite picturesque “Ruusupuisto” (which means rose garden) building, the Faculty of Education and Psychology is fortunate to be on the receiving end of all its state of the art and modern amenities. It is no surprise that Education in JYU is among the world’s best, ranking 84th by the Times Higher Education – World University rankings and positioned 101 -150 in the QS Rankings.

The Faculty of Education and Psychology offers a Master’s Degree Programme in Educational Sciences for this application round, that is, for the 2018-2019 academic year. The Masters is in English and offers an opportunity to specialise in Educational Leadership, Early Childhood Studies, Inclusive Education, Guidance and Counselling, Foreign Language Pedagogy, Current Issues in Education and Psychology.

This programme encourages students to engage in intercultural and multicultural dialogues, practices and experiences in its endeavour to prepare its students to address educational needs of a globalised world. It does so, by allowing students to become familiar with its very own renowned Finnish education system by connecting it to one’s own experiences in the field of education. Opportunities to apply educational theories and practises are plenty within and outside the programme.

Besides the diversity of students and their experiences, the expertise of the faculty is another key feature. The programme boasts of having experts in each field of the specialisations offered. Of interest to potential academicians, is collaboration with educational researchers from around the world and research institutes. If one is so inclined, one does not have to look very hard to find collaborative networks within the faculty with research institutions like the Finnish Institute of Educational Research, Educluster or even Niilo Mäki Institute, to name a few. You can read more about students’ experiences here.
