Introduction of the new student ambassadors #3

Anna

Hey everyone, my name is Anna and I am studying in the MSc. programme Corporate Environmental Management.

During my bachelor I did an exchange in Jyväskylä and I absolutely loved it. The people, the education system, the student life and specially the amazing finnish nature. So when I finished my bachelor in Germany I tried to come back to Finland, succeeded and never regretted it. I would even go as far and say that it was one of my best decisions ever.

One of the facts I really like about JYU is, that they offer a wide range of courses, which allow you to study topics out of your original major programme but in your area of interest. I would recommend JYU to everyone who enjoys an international atmosphere and who wants to keep on self developing and exploring and who likes nature. Additionally you should also like chilly temperatures at least to some extent. But there is never bad or too cold weather, if you have the right clothing. :)

Event though Jyväskylä is a small place, it offers a wide variety of things to do. Myself I spent a lot of time in nature playing frisbee golf or beach volleyball, going kayaking and in winter ice skating, cross country skiing and ice swimming. Also the university offers many possibilities to get involved like student associations or development projects. And then never forget about all the different places in Jyväskylä where you can have a sauna or sing karaoke - two really essential finnish freetime activities.

Introduction of the new student ambassadors #2

Alex

Hi! My name is Alex and originally I come from the city of Saint-Petersburg, Russia, although I've been living in Finland for quite some time already. At the moment, I am a second year student of Nanoscience Msc  programme with physics specialization and slowly start to
descend towards graduation.

When it came to choosing the university, I have carefully checked the options available in Finland. My criterion was research activity in the university since I wanted to get as much hands-on experience as possible within the study period and I consider continuing as PhD student further on. JYU seemed to be a good match since there more than 20 research groups only related to “nano-area”. The Nanoscience programme in Jyväskyä University unites three branches: chemistry physics and biology, and has dedicated Nanoscience research center. That sounded pretty exciting and unique to me, so I applied and fortunately had been accepted.

My expectations were completely fulfilled - not only the quality of education is high, the university has all a young scientist can dream of: good laboratories and variety of equipment, great people, that live science, surrounding you every day. I would definitely recommend JYU for aspiring scientist - here you can get a well-rounded education, boost your theoretical knowledge and immediately apply it in practice.

On a side note, the university is the central part of the city of Jyväskylä, where every 3rd person you meet is a student so you won't get bored here, there is a huge student community, lots of activities like sports and various events and, of course, lots and lots of parties..

Introduction of the new student ambassadors #1

Haoyi

Hi everyone, I am Haoyi from Beijing, China, a former Finnish major student and currently a second-year master’s student in intercultural communication (now it is LAGIC program). Like many of us, I have also been an exchange student in JYU before and it was definitely the best year during my bachelor studies. I decided to apply for master’s programs and continue my story here – believe it or not, JYU has its magic to make people return!

I first came to JYU as a language exchange student, but JYU offered a wide range of opportunities to let students explore different areas. Not only was I able to improve my language skills by attending lectures provided by language center, but also freely expand my interests in other courses, whether they are about culture, business, or IT. The staff, professors, and the supporting system for international students are also friendly and efficient. When you need, you can always get help from them. Also, I would recommend EOTO and friendship family program to all students who are interested in language and culture.

I personally think JYU is a vibe. It consists of the unique student culture, beautiful Finnish nature and design, as well as its value. I could either emerge into the amazing student activities, or dive deep into myself in the quiet nature. Apart from studies, JYU offers high-quality group fitness sessions and sports courses. The city is also the best place for swimming, canoeing, jogging, skiing and ice skating. Wherever you are from, you can always find people to hangout and cook together. Although Jyväskylä is a small city, you will never be bored if you don’t want to.

JYU is a place worth coming to, and it will not disappoint you!
